Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a blue circular scroll in two sections the upper section containing the words RAPID REPAIR in silver between two small silver flashes, the lower section offset and containing the word RETURN also in silver between the pommels of two silver swords, the one to the right with broken blade and held in the palm of a red gauntleted hand, and the sword to the left unbroken and held in the palm of a buff colored hand and forearm crossed over the gauntlet at the wrist the sword point terminating above the upper scroll between the words RAPID and REPAIR.

Symbolism
The gauntleted hand holding a broken sword, crossed by the hand returning a whole sword is symbolic of the swift and sure service provided by the Battalion and reflects the spirit of the units motto, Rapid Repair, Return.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 20 January 1967.
